Forest Ranch is a suburban community located in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles County, California. The population was 33,859 at the 2010 census. Forest Ranch is bordered by Tarzana to the north, Reseda to the east, Sun Valley to the south and Woodland Hills to the west.

The community was founded in 1926 as a planned community by developer William Wrigley Jr. and his wife Catherine Ewing Wrigley. It was named for their Forest Ranch estate in Napa County, California. The original development consisted of 1,500 acres (6 km2) of land that was divided into thirty-six blocks with streets laid out in a grid pattern. The first homes were completed in 1927 and sold for $10,000 each.

In 1928 Wrigley built a golf course on part of his property and opened it to the public. In 1930 he built an amusement park called Camp Forest Ranch on another part of his property which featured an eighty-foot (24 m) high roller coaster called "The Big Dipper". The amusement park operated until 1957 when it was closed due to financial difficulties caused by competition from new theme parks such as Disneyland which had opened just two years earlier.

In 1941 Wrigley developed another subdivision called Walnut Hills which consisted of 1,600 acres (6 km2) of undeveloped land adjacent to Forest Ranch. In 1945 he donated 800 acres (3 km2) of Walnut Hills land for use as a military airbase known as Wright Field after World War II ended but it was never used for that purpose and eventually became part of Van Nuys Airport..

In 1954 Wrigley developed yet another subdivision known as Greenacres which consisted of 2,000 acres (8 km2)of undeveloped land adjacent to Walnut Hills.. In 1960 he donated 800 acres (3 km2)of Greenacres land for use as a military airbase known as Norton Air Force Base but it too was never used for that purpose and eventually became part of Van Nuys Airport..

In 1978 William Wrigley Jr.'s grandson Philip Jaffe acquired control over all three subdivisions through his company PJP Incorporated.. PJP Incorporated continued to develop Forest Ranch into its present form through home construction, commercial development and real estate investment.. In 1990 PJP Incorporated merged with Metromedia Corporation creating Metromedia Real Estate Corporation which continues today under the same ownership structure..
