The Changing Face of Hillsboro: Home Prices and Trends

Hillsboro is a small town located in Johnson County, Kansas. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. Hillsboro is located in the eastern part of Johnson County and is bordered by the city of Overland Park to the south and west, Olathe to the north, and Lenexa to the east.

The town was founded in 1871 when a group of settlers from Illinois arrived in what was then known as "The Bottoms." The Bottoms were a fertile agricultural area that had been settled by Native Americans for centuries. The settlers named their new settlement Hillsboro after Dr. James H. Hills, an early Kansas settler and physician who served as governor of Kansas Territory from 1859-1861.

Hillsboro's early economy was based on agriculture and livestock ranching. However, with the arrival of the railroad in 1872 and later industrial development, Hillsboro began to grow rapidly. By 1900, it had become one of Johnson County's largest towns with a population of 3,000.

Today, Hillsboro continues to be an important community in Johnson County with a diversified economy based on services such as healthcare, education, retail sales, and manufacturing. The town's main attractions include its historic downtown district which features several well-preserved Victorian-era buildings; its many parks including Hillcrest Park which features a baseball diamond; and its proximity to both Overland Park and Lenexa which make it an ideal location for commuters
