Waldorf, MD

Waldorf is a town in Allegany County, Maryland, United States. The population was 1,906 at the 2010 census. Waldorf is located in the Cumberland Valley region of Maryland and is bordered by Cumberland to the north, Frostburg to the east, Hagerstown to the south and Gaithersburg to the west.

The town of Waldorf was founded in 1777 by German immigrants who were attracted by its fertile soil and temperate climate. The first settlers erected a log cabin on what is now Main Street. In 1812, Waldorf became part of Frederick County when that county was formed from parts of Washington and Montgomery counties. The town's growth was slow until after World War II when it began to experience rapid development as a result of its proximity to major metropolitan areas (Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia) as well as its excellent schools and infrastructure. Today Waldorf remains an attractive community with a variety of housing options for residents ranging from single-family homes to condominiums and apartments.
