Minden City is a city located in the northern tier of Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 11,872 at the 2010 census. Minden City is part of the Detroit metropolitan area and is adjacent to Rochester Hills and Sterling Heights.
The city was founded in 1881 by George W. Childs as a small farming community on land that he had purchased from his father-in-law, John Sibley, for $1,000. The first business opened in 1882: a general store operated by Jotham Prentice and Charles Fenton. In 1884, Childs built the first frame house in Minden City; it still stands today at 202 Eureka Street. By 1886, there were twelve businesses operating in Minden City; two churches had been established as well (St John's Episcopal Church and First Presbyterian Church).
In 1890, Minden City became incorporated as a village with a population of 1,500 people; it was renamed to its present name in 1895. In 1899, an electric light plant was erected on Main Street; this plant became the city's primary source of income until it closed down in 1984 due to competition from natural gas and oil lamps.
The automotive industry began to take hold during the 1920s with Ford Motor Company opening an assembly plant near Minden City that produced Model T automobiles; this plant employed 2,000 workers at its peak production period (1929-1933). Other major employers during this time included General Motors (which opened an assembly plant producing Chevrolet cars) and Chrysler Corporation (which opened an assembly plant producing Plymouth cars).
During World War II (1939-1945), Minden City served as one of five manufacturing centers for military vehicles for both the United States Army and United States Navy; plants operated by Ford Motor Company (producing tanks), General Motors (producing jeeps), Chrysler Corporation (producing trucks), Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporation (producing aircraft parts) and Willys-Overland Company (producing amphibious vehicles) all contributed to wartime production efforts within the city limits. After World War II ended, many of these same companies reopened their plants but with reduced workforce sizes due to increased automation technologies being adopted within manufacturing industries; this trend has continued throughout much of recent history within the automotive industry within Michigan's northern tier suburbs such as those located within Oakland County including those located within Minden City itself..
In recent years however, several large regional corporations have begun locating their corporate headquarters outside of Detroit including Google Inc., Quicken Loans Inc., Compuware Corporation and Blue Cross Blue Shield Association which have all relocated their corporate headquarters outside of Detroit since 2010 respectively.. This trend has led some local economists such as Dr Michael Hicks who argue that Detroit's decline can largely be attributed to offshoring activities conducted by large multinational corporations rather than any inherent weaknesses or deficiencies within Detroit itself..
Real estate prices have seen steady growth over time both nationally and locally within Minden City owing largely to its proximity to other major metropolitan areas such as Metro Detroit which has seen significant population growth over time resulting in increased demand for housing units relative to available supply.. According to Zillow data published between January 2016 - January 2017 , median home values rose 8% nationally while they rose 13% locally Within Oakland County specifically however , median home values rose 16% nationally while they rose 21% locally Within Oakland County specifically . This strong performance can be partially attributed to several factors including low interest rates which are keeping mortgage payments affordable relative to historical norms , increasing wages which are leading more people into higher income brackets where they are able afford larger mortgages , limited inventory availability due not onlyto increasing demand but also restrictive zoning regulations that may make it difficult or prohibitively expensive for developers or homeowners wishingto construct new homes or expand existing homes onto additional parcelsof land ..
