Lees Summit, MO

Lees Summit is a town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 16,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area.

The town was founded in 1872 and named for its founder, James B. Lees. The town's economy was based on agriculture until the early 20th century when it became a bedroom community for workers in nearby Kansas City and St. Louis. In recent years, Lees Summit has experienced significant growth as a result of its proximity to the University of Missouri- Kansas City and its strong job market. As a result of this growth, many new homes and businesses have been built in the town center over the past few years.
