Ventnor City, NJ

Ventnor City is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 9,827,[10][11] reflecting an increase of 551 (+5.4%) from the 8,721 counted in the 2000 Census,[12] which had in turn increased by 1,914 (+16.3%) from the 6,829 counted in the 1990 Census.[13] Ventnor City is located on Long Beach Island and borders Ocean Township to the east and west; Bradley Beach to the north; and Asbury Park to the south.

The borough was formed on March 17, 1894 as part of an effort by developers Lewis Morris and George W. Childs to create a resort town on Long Beach Island that would rival Atlantic City.[14][15] The name "Ventnor" is derived from a Venetian word meaning "a place of fresh air".[16][17] The first settler arrived in Ventnor City in 1873.[18] The area now occupied by Ventnor City was originally inhabited by Native Americans who called it "Mashonaquack".[19][20]

The borough's economy has been based largely on tourism since its inception; however, with improvements made to infrastructure over time this has shifted more towards commercial development.[21][22][23] In recent years there has been an increase in residential development as well as retail establishments located along Route 35 which bisects Ventnor City into east and west sections.[24][25][26] Many restaurants have also opened up within walking distance of each other making it easy for residents and visitors to find something to eat. There are also several shopping centers located throughout Ventnor City including The Shops at Ventnor Plaza which features upscale retailers such as Saks Fifth Avenue[27], Neiman Marcus[28], Bergdorf Goodman[29], Lord & Taylor[30], Nordstrom Rack[31], Macy's[32], JCPenney[33], Sears Roebuck & Co., Home Depot,[34]; TownePlace Suites by Marriott,[35]; Holiday Inn Express & Suites,[36]; Fairfield Inn & Suites By Marriott,[37]; Quality Inn & Suites By Carlson,[38]; Red Roof Inn,[39]; Hampton Inn & Suites By Hilton Garden Inn [40]. Additionally there are several golf courses located within close proximity including Ventnor Country Club (18-hole), Trump National Golf Club (18-hole), Ballyowen Golf Course (9-hole), Eagles Landing Golf Course (9-hole). There are also several beaches located within close proximity including Seaside Heights beach (1 mile away) Wildwood Crest beach (2 miles away) Belmar beach (3 miles away).
