Woodbridge is a borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 14,827,[7][8] reflecting an increase of 1,564 (+14.1%) from the 13,906 counted in the 2000 Census.[9]

The borough was formed on April 10, 1899 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature from portions of Edison Township and Piscataway Township.[10] The borough's name derives from its location near a large tract of wooded land that belonged to Colonel John Stevens (1754-1834), who served as Governor of New Jersey and U.S. Senator from New Jersey.[11][12]

Woodbridge is located at 40°4′N 74°36′W (40.7000°N -74.6333°W). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.781 square miles (7.023 km2), including 2.675 square miles (6.971 km2) of land and 0.118 square mile (0.343 km2) of water (3rd smallest by area among municipalities in New Jersey).[13]

As of the census[14] of 2010, there were 14,827 people residing in Woodbridge Borough; an increase from 13,906 counted in 2000 (+14%).
