Brunswick is a city located in Brunswick County, North Carolina. The population was 21,715 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Brunswick County.

The city was founded in 1792 by General James Moore and named for his home town of Brunswick, England. The city grew rapidly as a center for trade and commerce on the Cape Fear River due to its strategic location on the river and its proximity to Wilmington, Fayetteville, New Bern and other major ports on the Atlantic seaboard. In 1849, a railroad line was built through town connecting it with Wilmington and other points north. This helped spur further growth as businesses moved into downtown to take advantage of the railroads' transportation advantages.

Today, Brunswick is still an important commercial center with a diverse economy that includes manufacturing, health care, retailing and tourism. The city has been designated a "Tree City USA" since 1984 and has been successful in attracting new businesses and jobs while preserving its historic character.
