Boyertown, PA

Boyertown is a borough in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,890 at the 2010 census. Boyertown is located at 40°5′N 75°41′W (40.0933,-75.6833).

The area that would become Boyertown was first settled in 1752 by Jacob and Rebecca Boyer and their six children. In 1798, the land that now makes up Boyertown was purchased from the Penn family by John Neff and his wife Sarah. Neff built a mill on the Susquehanna River near what is now Main Street and began to grow the town into an agricultural center for the surrounding countryside. In 1802, Neff sold part of his land to Joseph Miller who built a gristmill on it and began to develop what would become known as Milltown. The town's name came from Jethro Taylor who owned a large tract of land in the area and named it after his son-in-law, George Bradford Boyer (1786-1863), who served as U.S Representative from Pennsylvania from 1837 until his death in 1863.

In 1853, James Fenton purchased part of Milltown which he developed into a residential neighborhood called Fentonville which became home to many of Boyertown's early business leaders including Joseph Miller Jr., David Saylor Sr., James Haines and John Bowersox among others. In 1870, Fentonville merged with Milltown creating what is now known as Downtown Boyertown which today serves as the commercial heart of the borough with dozens of businesses ranging from restaurants to boutiques housed within its brick sidewalks and historic buildings dating back to before 1900 including The Old Stone House Inn & Restaurant (formerly The Brownstone Inn) which was originally built in 1792 by General George Washington's stepfather Colonel Nicholas Longworth Sr..

In 1896, William Atherton bought much of Fentonville including what is now known as Atherton Park which he developed into one of Boyertown's most prestigious neighborhoods featuring grand Victorian homes set amidst well manicured gardens complete with gazebos and tennis courts along Willow Creek which bisects it like an elegant ribbon linking Easton Avenue on one side to West Street on the other side..

In 1909 William Atherton donated much of Atherton Park – then still undeveloped – to the borough for use as a public park which today bears his name.. In 1912 Andrew Carnegie donated $50,000 towards construction costs for a new municipal building which would house both city hall and police department along with other municipal offices such as tax assessor etc... Today this building – originally called City Hall but now officially known simply as Municipal Building – houses numerous municipal offices including those for zoning regulation housing departments such as building inspection among others while also serving primarily as home base for both police department headquarters along with fire department operations.. In 1916 Daniel Burnham designed an impressive new city hall annex – then still under construction – that features Romanesque Revival style architecture topped off by an imposing tower featuring 24 Corinthian columns flanked by two stone lions atop its roof.. This structure remains largely unchanged since its original construction more than seventy years ago save for some minor updates here and there such as installing air conditioning units during summer months etc...

Today boyertowndowntown retains much of its historic character while also enjoying continued growth thanks largely to its location within close proximity to both Philadelphia - just over 20 miles away - making it easily accessible via highways or train stations; furthermore due south lies Reading - another major metropolitan area only about 25 miles away - making it easy for residents working in either city center or nearby industrial areas; additionally due east lies Lancaster County providing access not only to larger shopping centers but also popular tourist destinations like Gettysburg Battlefield National Military Park; finally due north lies Harrisburg providing access not only to state government facilities but also important business districts like downtown Harrisburg etc...
