Decatur, TX

Decatur is a city located in Travis County, Texas. The population was 33,811 as of the 2010 census. Decatur is home to the University of Texas at Austin and is known for its arts and culture scene. Real estate in Decatur has seen strong growth in recent years, with prices reaching all-time highs.

The history of real estate in Decatur can be traced back to 1836 when General Sam Houston and his army camped near present-day Decatur while on their way to fight the Mexican Army at the Battle of San Jacinto. In 1839, Stephen F. Austin granted land near present-day Decatur to James W. Fannin and others for the establishment of a military post. The town was officially founded in 1841 and named after General Andrew Jackson's hometown of Decatur, Alabama.

In 1870, the Houston & Texas Central Railroad built a line through present-day Decatur linking Dallas with Fort Worth. This event led to an influx of settlers into the area, which contributed to rapid growth throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s. In 1909, a fire destroyed much of downtown Decatur; however, reconstruction efforts soon began and by 1911 most businesses were back open for business.

During World War II, many soldiers stationed at nearby Fort Hood moved into Decaturand started purchasing homesites around town.
