Studio City, CA

Studio City is a city located in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles County, California. The city has been noted for its affluence and high-end residential neighborhoods since the 1920s. It was originally part of the Chatsworth district, and was incorporated as a municipality in 1927. As of the 2010 census, the city's population was 34,914.

The city is home to several production studios including 20th Century Fox Film Corporation (formerly Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation), Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures (formerly Walt Disney Productions), Paramount Pictures Corporation (formerly Paramount Pictures), Sony Pictures Entertainment (formerly Columbia Pictures Entertainment) and Warner Bros. Entertainment. Studio City also has a large number of high-end retail stores and restaurants, making it one of the most popular shopping destinations in Southern California.

The origins of Studio City can be traced back to 1911 when an agricultural landowner by the name of Ewing Kauffman purchased 640 acres south of present-day Studio City from Jotham Bixby for $40,000. In 1917, Kaufman formed an association with other landowners to form the Chatsworth Land Company and began developing what would become known as " Chatsworth". In 1926, following years of negotiations with local businesses and civic leaders, Kaufman decided to incorporate his community as a municipality under the name " Studio City". The original boundaries were roughly bounded by Ventura Boulevard on the north, Sepulveda Boulevard on the east, San Fernando Road on the south and Ventura Avenue on the west. The new town had a population of 3200 people and boasted six churches (including one for African Americans), two schools (one for boys/girls), four businesses (including one grocery store) and two hotels - The Ambassador Hotel & Country Club at Laurel Canyon Boulevard & Sepulveda Boulevard which opened its doors in 1928; The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel at Hollywood & Vine which opened its doors in 1929).

In 1932 Kaufman sold his remaining land holdings within Studio City to developers Edward Dmytryk and Sol Lesser who began developing what would become known as "Lesser Hollywood". In 1935 Dmytryk purchased Kaufman's remaining land holdings within Studio City - this time forming what would become known as "Dmytryk Hollywood" - thus beginning what is now considered "the Golden Age" of motion picture production in Los Angeles County. During this period studios built state-of-the-art facilities within Lesser Hollywood including RKO Radio Pictures' famed Lankershim Studios which opened its doors in 1936; 20th Century Fox Film Corporation's Fox Studios which opened its doors in 1939; Warner Bros.' Warners Ranch which opened its doors in 1940; MGM's Culver Studios which opened its doors in 1941; Columbia Pictures' Astoria Studios which opened its doors in 1942; United Artists'UA Buildingwhichopeneditsdoorsin1946and Universal Studios' Universal Buildingwhichopeneditsdoorsin1947).

As more movie companies moved into Lesser Hollywood additional residential areas began to develop along Ventura Boulevards adjacent to these studio lots - these areas became known as "Studio District" or simply "The Valley". These developments included such well know communities such as Bel Air Hills Estates、 Beverly Hills West、Sunset Strip West、Tower Village、 Westwood Village、 Sherman Oaks。

In 1957 Dmytryk sold his remaining property holdings within Lesser Hollywood to developers Robert Evans Sr., William Paley Jr., Irwin Allen Jr., Sid Bassett III et al who began developing what would become known as "Evansville" or simply "The Valley". During this period studios built additional facilities within Evansville including 20th Century Fox Television's KTTV Channel 11 studio complex which opened its doors in 1960; Columbia Broadcasting System's CBS Television Network studio complex which opened its doors in 1966; United Artists Television's UA Tower facility which also operated as NBCUniversal Television Center from 1986 until 2006 when it was closed due to budget constraints); Metro Goldwyn Mayer's MGM/UA Buildingwhichopeneditsdoorsin1967and Paramount Pictures' Paramount Plaza facilitywhichopeneditsdoorsin1968).

During this same period numerous high end residential neighborhoods began development adjacent to Evansville including Toluca Lake Village (); Encino Hills (); Tarzana (); Sherman Oaks (); Northridge (); Granada Hills (); Hidden Hills ().

In 1984 development firm TrizecHahn purchased all remaining property holdings within Lesser Hollywood from Paley et al creating what is now called just plain old “ Los Angeles” – thus ending “the Golden Age”of motion picture production at Los Angeles County’s film studios。
