Avon, MA

Avon is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 30,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boston metropolitan area.

Avon was first settled in 1634 as part of Charlestown. The town was incorporated on February 14, 1798 from portions of Reading and Westford townships. It became known as "The Queen City of New England" for its many elegant homes and well-to-do residents during the 19th century. Many prominent figures in American history lived in Avon, including Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, James Otis and John Adams (the second president).

Today Avon retains much of its historic character with many well-preserved homes and businesses lining Main Street. The downtown area has been revitalized with new restaurants and shops opening up along with a new public library and community center.
