Champlin, MN

Champlin is a city located in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 10,898 at the 2010 census. Champlin is a suburb of Minneapolis and is part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Champlin has been described as "a small town with big city amenities."

The city's economy is based on retail sales and services, health care, manufacturing, and professional services. Manufacturing includes food processing and transportation equipment. Professional services include law firms, accounting firms, engineering firms, and medical practices. Retail sales include furniture stores, clothing stores, restaurants/bars/clubs/theaters. Services include banks/credit unions/insurance companies/real estate agents.

Champlin was founded in 1892 by Charles A. Champlin as a small farming community on the banks of the Mississippi River near what would become downtown Minneapolis. The first post office opened in 1893 with Charles A Champlin as postmaster; it was renamed Champlin in 1896 after his son Charles E Champlin who served as mayor from 1901 to 1903 (and again from 1925 to 1927). In 1907 the railroad reached Champlin; this led to an increase in commercial development along Main Street (now known as Nicollet Mall). In 1915 construction began on Nicollet Mall; it opened in 1916 and became an important shopping destination for residents of Minneapolis and St Paul suburbs alike.

In 1924 Charles E Champlin donated land for what would become Central High School which opened that year; it became Hennepin County's second high school (after Brooklyn Park High School) and served students from both Minneapolis and St Paul until 1967 when Central High School merged with Robbinsdale High School to form Robbinsdale-Central High School which continues to serve students from both cities today . In 1928 construction began on what would become Uptown Shopping Center which opened that year; it featured Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney Co., Woolworth's Inc., Kresge's Department Store (now Macy's), Montgomery Ward & Co., Meier & Frank Jewelers (later Zales), McCrory Shoes (later Payless ShoeSource), Marshall Field & Company (later Menard's), Ames Department Store (later Macy's), Cadillac-Fairview Corporation-owned Mayfair Theatre which featured vaudeville acts including Wurlitzer pipe organist Oscar Peterson who performed there weekly for many years starting in 1938 until his death in 1975 . In 1949 construction began on what would become Target Center which opened that year featuring Minnesota North Stars ice hockey team playing their home games at the arena until they moved to Dallas in 1993 where they were renamed the Dallas Stars; Target Center now features basketball games as well as concerts by popular artists such as Taylor Swift , Ed Sheeran , Justin Bieber , Bruno Mars , etc .

In 1971 development began on what would become Westgate Shopping Center which featured JCPenney Co., Sears Roebuck & Co., Kmart Corp./Sears Canada Ltd./The Bay department store chain [now Macy's], Safeway Inc./Albertsons Inc./Target Corporation [now Target], Pizza Hut [now Little Caesars Pizza], Red Lobster [now Red Lobster], White Castle [now White Castle] among other retailers ; Westgate Shopping Center now features numerous restaurants including Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar , Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar , Chipotle Mexican Grill , Denny’s Restaurant Group - locally owned locations only including one location inside Westgate Shopping Center itself ), Starbucks Coffee Company - locally owned locations only ), TGI Friday’s - locally owned locations only ). The mall also features two movie theaters: Regal Entertainment Group - locally owned locations only ) AMC Entertainment Holdings LLC - nationally franchised theaters ).
