Irvington is a borough in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 10,527,[10][11] reflecting an increase of 1,812 (+38.2%) from the 6,977 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 2,719 (+51.3%) from the 5,471 counted in the 1990 Census.[12]

The borough borders Bloomfield Township and Montclair Township to the north; Caldwell and West Orange to the east; and Union City to the south and west. The Passaic River forms its eastern border with Bloomfield Township and its western border with Montclair Township before flowing into Newark Bay at Newark Liberty International Airport. Interstate 80 crosses through Irvington just south of its downtown area on Route 3/9 near where Route 3 splits into 9th Street South and 3rd Street North.[15][16][17]
