Pottsboro, TX

Pottsboro is a small town in Williamson County, Texas. The population was 2,914 at the 2010 census. Pottsboro is located in the Dallas- Fort Worth metroplex and is bordered by Lancaster to the north, Rowlett to the east, and Flower Mound to the south.

The town of Pottsboro was founded in 1892 by J.W. Potts and W.H. Clements as a railroad stop on the Missouri Pacific Railroad line that ran from Waco to Fort Worth. The town's name is derived from Colonel William Hutton Potts (1824-1901), an early settler who owned large tracts of land in and around what would become Pottsboro.

Pottsboro's economy has traditionally been based on agriculture and manufacturing; however, since the 1990s it has experienced significant growth due to its proximity to Dallas/ Fort Worth International Airport and its position as a bedroom community for workers in those two metropolitan areas. As a result of this growth, many new businesses have opened up in Pottsboro, including restaurants, retail stores, health care facilities, and technology companies. In addition, several large corporations have relocated their headquarters or regional operations here, including AT&T Mobility (formerly Cingular Wireless), ExxonMobil Corporation (formerly Mobil Oil), Dell Inc., Kimberly-Clark Corporation (formerly Huggies), and Ryder System Incorporated (formerly Ryder Truck Leasing).

Today there are several well-known neighborhoods within Pottsboro: Legacy Estates near I-35E; Park Place near US 75; Westwood Village near Loop 1204; Northwoods near US 75N/I-35E; Heritage Hills near I-35E/US 75N; Meadowbrook Estates near Loop 1204N/I-635W; Lake Highlands just west of I-635W/US 175E; Bridgeland just east of I-635W/US 175E; Briarcliff Manor just northeast of I-635W/US 175E; Country Club Estates just southeast of I-635W/US 175E .
