Metuchen, NJ

Metuchen is a township in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township's population was 27,812,[1][2] reflecting an increase of 1,527 (+7.4%) from the 26,876 counted in the 2000 Census. Metuchen was formed as a result of the merger of two townships on January 1, 1894: East Metuchen and West Metuchen. The name " Metuchen" is derived from a Lenape word meaning "place where there are many cedar trees".[3]

Metuchen is located at 40°51′N 74°59′W (40.8700°N -74.9900°W). According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 8.932 square miles (22.542 km2), including 8.898 square miles (22.421 km2) of land and 0.122 square mile (0.353 km2) of water (0.37%).[4]

The Township borders Livingston and North Brunswick Township to the north; Edison and Old Bridge Township to the east; Woodbridge Township to the south; and Union City to the west.[5]
