Cloverdale, CA

Cloverdale is a small town located in the eastern part of Contra Costa County, California. The population was 10,898 at the 2010 census. Cloverdale is located at 37°5′24″N 122°1′41″W. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.3 square miles (6.9 km2), all of it land.

The town was founded in 1868 by Jotham Sibley and named for his wife's family estate in Scotland. The first post office opened in 1869 and closed in 1942; mail now goes through Martinez. The railroad reached Cloverdale in 1872 and helped spur growth; today there are still several active rail lines running through the town, including Amtrak's Capitol Corridor line which runs through Cloverdale Station on Main Street near downtown Cloverdale.

Today, Cloverdale is a suburban community with many well-maintained homes and tree-lined streets. It has a public library, two churches (one Episcopal and one Presbyterian), two schools (one elementary school and one middle/high school), several businesses, a grocery store, gas station/convenience store, bank branch, post office branch (closed since 2002), police department headquarters building and fire station on Main Street just south of downtown Cloverdale adjacent to Amtrak's Capitol Corridor line tracks that run through the center of town along with Interstate 80/580 freeway interchange nearby on Highway 24 just east of downtown Cloverdale near Martinez Airport which serves as an economic engine for both communities with jobs at local businesses such as FedEx Corporation headquartered there along with other aviation-related businesses such as Embraer Defense & Security SAB de CV., Honeywell Aerospace Services Inc., Aerojet Rocketdyne Holdings Inc., Northrop Grumman Corporation etc.. Cloverdale has been designated as an Agricultural Service Area by Contra Costa County since 1922 providing irrigation water for crops such as almonds, figs walnuts grapes etc... In addition there are various ranches within proximity providing livestock grazing for cattle sheep pigs etc...
